Nestling in the heart of Périgord Noir, Montignac, the main
town in the Dordogne canton, is dominated by the highly fertile
Vallée de la Vézère. The history of the town
goes hand-in-hand with that of humanity. Our prehistoric heritage
includes one of Frances most internationally-renowned and
frequented sites: the Grotte de Lascaux, discovered in 1940, not,
of course, forgetting the prehistoric site of Régourdou. On
a cruise up the Vézère, you will see real troglodyte
caves, châteaux and museums, masterpieces of our heritage...but
thats not all!
Montignac was occupied from the Palaeolithic Age and then colonised
by the Romans: The Villa des Olivoux au Chambon (a term of Celtic
origin which means "meander") and the Villa de Brenac.
